California Community Colleges (CCC)

Community CollegeĀ

TheĀ California Community CollegesĀ system isĀ the largest system of higher education in the nation, with 2.1 million students attending 116Ā colleges. Community colleges provide students with the knowledge and backgroundĀ necessary to compete in todayā€™s economy. With a wide range of educational offerings, the colleges provide workforce training, basic courses in English and math, certificate and degree programs and preparation for transfer to four-year institutions. Ā For a complete listing of all California Community Colleges please go toĀ www.cccco.eduĀ  Did you know that students at JFK can take college courses on the JFK campus in their 11th and 12th grade years? Ā Ohlone College provides the instructors. Ā Students do not pay tuition, but do have to buy their books. Ā The grades they earn go on their college transcript. Ā In addition, FUSD offers 12th grade students the option of joining the Ohlone College Connections Program. Ā These students attend school on the Ohlone Campus. Ā In the morning they are completing their high school requirements with an FUSD teacher, and in the afternoon they are free to attend college classes at Ohlone. Ā If you are interested in this program see your counselor for more information.

Community College Entrance InformationĀ
Admission: Ā High school graduate or over 18 years of age.
Application: Ā Online in March of each year.

Placement: Ā  Community colleges no longer give placement exams to place students in the appropriate math and English classes. Ā They are now using multiple measures to determine placement. Ā Those measures include, high school GPA, high school coursework, high school grades, and your SBAC score. Ā The SBAC is given in the Spring of your 11th grade year. Ā See your Counselor or Ms. Miller to find out what your SBAC score is.
