Q: How are Government actions impacting local education?

A: We are proud of our award-winning schools and teachers. They help make our community a great place to live, work, and raise a family, and they help keep our property values high. But as the Federal government dismantles the Federal Department of Education—which supports state and local programs—local voter-approved funding for these programs has also ended. Our schools are now struggling to bring back the funds needed for basic educational programs.

Q: How are educational programs impacted?

A: Classroom programs—including science, technology, engineering, art, and math, or STEAM programs—were funded by both the federal government and local dollars. With the Government’s actions, these programs have been affected.

Q: What about classroom teachers?

A: Having an effective teacher in the classroom is the most important part of providing a strong education. We are working hard to help Fremont schools recruit and keep the best teachers, as well as reduce class sizes to the levels we had before education funding cuts.

Q: What education priorities have the community identified to date?

A: Residents want fair and stable funding that stays in Fremont and cannot be taken away by the Federal or State governments. Top priorities we’ve heard so far include:

• Attract/retain highly qualified teachers, including quality science teachers
• Enhance/maintain the quality of academic instruction in core subjects like reading, writing, STEAM
• Keep schools safe and well maintained
• Provide career and technical training to make sure students are ready for the 21st century job market
• Keep school libraries open and properly staffed
• Restore smaller class sizes

Fremont Unified School District:
Highlights of a 2025 Revenue Measure Feasibility Survey

The Fremont Unified School District commissioned Godbe Research to conduct a feasibility survey of local voters with the following research objectives:

• Gauge the public’s perceptions of whether the District is providing a quality education to students, effectively managing taxpayer funds, and needs additional funding
• Assess potential voter support for a parcel tax measure to ensure quality education and maintain stable local funding that cannot be taken by the State
• Identify respondent priorities
• Test the influence of information
• Assess opinion on the future direction of the economy;
• Use demographic and/or voter behavioral characteristics to validate the
  representativeness of the sample

On November 13^th, the California Department of Education (CDE) published the 2025 California School Dashboard and corresponding data files on DataQuest, showing that students in the Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) maintain high levels of achievement across multiple indicators.

“Our Dashboard results reflect the strong performance of our schools and the dedication of our students and educators. As we move toward the new year, our entire community can take pride in the hard work and commitment that make FUSD such a special place," said FUSD’s Superintendent Zack Larsen. 

These gains in student performance across California reflect the impact of investments in TK–12 education. “Seeing modest improvement on every Dashboard indicator should encourage us to deepen our investments in every child’s progress,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond.

“The more we can invest time, energy, and resources into our kids, the better their future can be,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. “And whether that future consists of college or a good job, in California, we are going to continue our work to ensure students and educators have the resources they need to be successful. So, while these Dashboard results are important and show progress, we know there’s more to do to take achievement to the next level.”
