California Mathematics Placement Exam

In 2015, the California Legislature (Senate Bill 359) enacted the California Mathematics Placement Act of 2015, which requires school districts to develop a fair, objective, and transparent mathematics placement policy for students entering grade 9.  This legislation further requires school districts to evaluate proper placement of students in the secondary math pathway of courses by including at least one placement checkpoint within the first month of the school year to ensure accurate placement and permit reevaluation of individual student progress.

FUSD utilizes course specific assessments developed by the California State University & University of California (CSU/UC) Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) as this placement checkpoint.
